We are shaped & fashioned by what we love

Last week was a big week for me. Between my capstone project and life’s monumental issues - I found out my best friends little sister wears a bra. Yes, the g20 summit is upon us but trust me - this is major. We are talking about the sweet red headed angel that was born when my best friend Elizabeth and I were “so old” and would be “ancient” the day she started liking boys. The time has come- At almost 24… I am old and ancient. As I meandered into the life of a middle school girl…we talked about middle school things -particularly my favorite- Justin Bieber. From Selena to the hair…we covered all crucial topics. Then she said it - the four words that spoke a little too close to my heart. HE. JUST. GETS. ME. As she fumbled over her words looking for justification I morphed into thoughts. I too had been a victim of “he just gets me.” I reassured her zero cool points had been deducted and we continued indulging in the pros and cons of the life of 13 year old. As the conversation progressed I couldn’t release my mind of the fact I truly understood. I vividly remember sobbing on the phone with her sister stating the lyrics of John Mayer’s No Such Thing…insisting that HE. JUST. GETS. ME.

I’ve always had an innate hunger to be challenged and to find my sweet spot. Growing up in a small town accompanied by a measly 26 classmates didn’t suit me. I wanted to experience EVERYTHING. At one point I tried to convince my parents to become missionaries so I could experience a third world country. Typical high school things such as cheerleading weren’t life or death - becoming someone I loved and doing something I loved was it for me. As days that felt like years passed- my heart was broken, girls were mean but his words were constant. Heavier Things? Come on! It was my drug. Everyday I left a campus surrounded by a cow cowfield engulfed by manure inside and out longing to turn on my great escape. All because— He got it.

Role your eyes. I’m sure JM would too. Everyone deserves an out and my out is music. My freshman year of college Continuum was released. I escaped the manure to enter the days of -oh shit, it’s happening- insert stop this train and you’ll understand. See? He helps you too. John Mayer is no god. I’m sure the words “man whore” are on the tip of your tongue. I dont feel led to comment on his personal life because I don’t care enough. I do know I will forever have his back as he has equally had mine. John didn’t start playing guitar for ladies- he learned because of an innate hunger to be something great doing something he loved.

Look at him now. He’s got it.

Olivia- I get you.

I urge you to find someone who gets it and take note. Success is not definite- watch how they fall and how they overcome. They aren’t supernatural. They’re human — like me and you.

JM will never know his words helped my 14 year old self. He will never know as I walked to my dorm that first year of college I listened to stop this train feeling an overwhelming sense of comfort knowing someone somewhere has felt the same way. However, he did see my mom and I singing at his show in Atlanta. A memory ill have forever. I finally became a person I loved and I was spending time with my mom. You know what? He got it.

Keep the hunger. Keep dreaming. Keep people in your life that get it. Don’t ever stop becoming the person you love. One day someone will look to you and say the four words that are close to your heart. She. Just. Gets. It.

18 Veterans commit suicide every day. One unwanted companion animal is killed every 8 seconds. Here’s a program that helps them both.

This reminds me of summers with my Granddad listening to Sonny Rollins and picking blackberries.

And all is good in the world.

A Video About Comic Sans

Relating to an earlier question. Also, did you know that Comic Sans may help your reading comprehension?

Thanks to dayruiningrobot & paulweberdv

Love this. The only thing missing is a coffee.
This is what happens when you can’t find mentors for your capstone project. Instead of sketching your mind explodes.

Design professionals+PTSD expert= nonexistent

Regardless, I’m not backing down.
